Apple University

Joel Podolny, current dean of the Yale School of Management, has announced he is leaving the education institute to go and work for Apple. The project he is going to work on is something new called Apple University, which he will be the vice president and dean of.

Little is known about what Apple University is, but speculation points towards an internal education system for Apple employees, an expansion of the existing iTunes U program, a brand new education initiative, or a combination of these.

Neither Apple nor Mr Podolny have commented further on what his new role will entail, but he will start his new job at Apple early next year.Read more at The Wall Street Journal

Matthew’s Opinion
Apple University looks most likely to be an internal education system for Apple employees, but it could be something a lot more encompassing. There has been a lot of interest and new resources offered up by education institutes lately, and Apple University could be some extension of that as well.
Mr Podolny has been working in education for a long time and before Yale he was teaching at Harvard and Stanford. There’s sure to be a transition phase as he gets used to the business environment and makes his mark within Apple. He is sure to receive a lot of respect there, but who he deals with directly is all down to what exactly Apple University is.

I for one hope this is more than just internal education and that Apple are planning to get more involved in education through the use of its products.
